The 18th - “Home”
The closing hole at Grand Elk certainly brings you home. From tee to green you have a commanding view of the spectacular clubhouse and facilities. The tee shot on the 18th leads to a wide fairway, but placement is critical to finishing the round off in Grand Fashion. The strategy of the hole starts with the location of the pin as a pin location anywhere in the center or to the right suggest hugging the bunkers on the left for the best angle. This is due to a green that bends from the front left to the back right and a bunker short of the green that stands to provide visual constraints for players on the right side of the fairway. The right side of the fairway is open nut is the preferred tee shot only when the pin is left of center. The green is made of Grand Elk’s typical soft contours with four very subtle areas. The green is setup to take running shots and feed them to the right so even if you do favor the right side of the fairway off the tee, don’t fret, just use what the green is giving you to work to pins right of the center. A chipping area to the right of the green will make for relatively simple chip shots back to the right side pins. the pin locations left of center must be attacked cautiously as a bunker lays in wait for anything left of the green.
