The 5th - “Down”
One of the more expansive holes on the course, this par four offers a lot of variety in both how to play the hole and scenery/features. With an elevated tee, the back drop of the mountains seems more commanding, and the “Colorado Stream” on the left side offers a beautiful view and sound.
A slight dogleg left, the tee shot can hug the left side near the stream and shorten the hole, or it can favor the right upper tier of the fairway which will leave a longer, but more open, look at the green. Longer hitters have to be careful playing down the right so as to not find the pot bunker through the fairway or the depression just short of the bunker, both of which could leave a semi-blind shot to the green.
The second shot is slightly uphill to a green that is guarded on the left by two bunkers and water. A dry stream bed that crosses the fairway about 60 yards short of the green should be considered if you find the rough or if you are well back with your tee shot. There is slope that will contain, and possibly feed shots back on the right side of the green.
The green is one you want to stay below the hole on. Favor the right side with any approach.
